I don’t think it’s happenstance that I studied English Literature before stumbling into Television and now Photography.
I truly believe that things happen for a reason and, if I hadn’t started with a love and strong grounding in storytelling, I wouldn’t work the way I do as a photographer.
What does this mean and why does this matter for you?

Why storytelling is important for your branding
The world is founded on telling stories. Way back in the caves, we told stories to make sure we didn’t eat the wrong berries from the poisonous red berry tree! It’s a way of staying safe and being part of a community.
Stories are built into our DNA and when we see or hear a story our brains process the information quicker – we even release feel good hormones. And stories will stick in our memory: we understand them more deeply and feel a greater connection.
This is why stories in your images will connect with your audience with ease and help you get more of your ideal clients.

What stories do you have that you could possibly tell?
This is where I can help you. But for now – start with the BIG one – how did you start your business? Why? And who do you do it for?
After this all other elements of your business are the little satellite stories – getting supplies to a client, helping customers with problems, getting your audience from A to B.
The other stories that we can tell are how you work as a business, what your values are and why that’s important.

Now for the tricksy one…so how on earth do I create a story inside an image?
The story telling element is constructed with lots of forethought! We plan it thoroughly and I’ll make it seem simple…but we wrangle lots of ideas before we come up with the perfect plan:
Where are you sitting? What does that say about who you are and how you work?
What pictures or colours are on display – how do they influence the mood?
What is the lighting like? How does this make the viewer feel? What does it say about who you are and how you do business? Is it calm and tranquil, or is it fun, bubbly and colourful?
What are your facial expressions and body language like?
We explore a full array of thoughtful, open, working, professional, fun and collaborative set ups.
Every single image I take is to convey an emotion to the viewer and help them understand who you are as a supplier/business and person.
But you won’t know we are doing this – I will make it seem fun and effortless – that’s my skillset you see 😉

What other skills do I employ as a photographer/producer?
I will make sure that I understand what you offer as a business and we will work out ways to convey this – tell the story of your business and you.
Do you offer therapies? Let’s get images of these – where people look nurtured and looked after.
Are your credentials firmly established in doing good for the environment? If so, let’s find ways of cleverly settling this idea into the subconscious of your customers.
Would you like to be seen as big hearted? Let’s work out how we display this message.
Now when they see the images, including the colours, props and even what you are wearing in the frame with you. They will immediately understand who you are, what you offer and what your story is.
