Frosty days with crisp clear light are perfect for taking photos of you, your biz or your family!
So, I thought I would share 5 top tips for taking fabulous photos with your family and friends this Christmas – using just your camera phone!
📸Watch the Sun
If the sun is low and bright in their eyes, get it behind your subjects so they aren’t squinting. If the sun is dimmed by clouds or trees, it is safe to have your subject face the light source.
📸Check the Background
You don’t want trees or plants growing out of people’s heads. However, let’s be honest this is Christmas and the house will probably be cluttered with festive debris. So, don’t be afraid to get in nice and close.
📸Use Your Feet
If you are creating festive memories, get a big wide shot that shows the whole table/christmas tree, but use your feet (don’t zoom) and step in closer to get the faces and heads.
📸The Big Family Shot
If you are getting together for a once in a year family session – do think about getting all the family in sympathetic colours. Just tell the relatives to all bring a jumper in green or red or white. Then you will have one photo with you all matching-ish. Or all the kids to come with blue jeans and a white or blue or striped shirt…
📸Capture the Laughter
Make people laugh and smile in the photos. Tell an awful cracker joke and get some shots of them laughing or grimacing at each other! Tell them to look at their favourite relative and then get the shock horror and laughter on their faces. Don’t forget to take the pic whilst you are all rolling around laughing!
📸Play with Angles
Use angles in your photos to create a sense of story. Put the port bottle in the foreground so that it looks huge – with a sleeping granny in the background. Makes for an epic pic!
BONUS TIP – Don’t just take one or two – take at least 10, keep hitting the ‘capture’ button and then you can delete the rubbish ones afterwards. NEVER only take one!
